The float was in the shape of a tractor, made from 27 square metres of wall gardens, planted with 50 varieties (3000 plants in total) of edible plants.
We were very popular with the other float builders as we had to regularly harvest our tractor to keep it growing well, with Sorrel and Red-ribbed Chicory leaves spicing up many shared lunches.
The float was seen by a record crowd of 120,000, looking its best on the day with colourful nasturtiums and chillies. The best compliment we received was from a visitor to the parade, who was heard telling his friends ‘but it’s not real – that’s not possible’.
The fluffy green tractor was then lovingly dismantled and recycled, with float builders and friends enjoying a good supply of mints and strawberries.
